Aircraft manufacturing company owned by BJ Habibie, PT Regio Aviation Industries (RAI) has bagged orders 125 aircraft R80 and ready to produce it in 2018 after obtaining airworthy certificate.
"Order 125 units of the 100 units of the NAM Air, a subsidiary of Srivijaya and 25 units of Kalstar Aviation. Prepared produced in 2018," said President Director of PT Agung Nugroho RAI on the sidelines "Monthly Talk Show Series 2014" Program Alumni Association held Habibie in Jakarta on Saturday.
Currently, he said, is still in the early design phase and feasibility study in late 2014 targeted completion, after it had entered the stage of prototype development.
ATR type aircraft with about 80 seats, according to him, has a number of advantages, namely more economical, cheap both in terms of price, maintenance costs, as well as fuel efficient as an airplane propeller (turboprop).
"In addition, the aircraft is also more convenient, because of the noise and low vibration, according to international standards. R80 is also more secure because of the advanced control system, easy to operate, and environmentally friendly," he said.
According to him, at this early stage there are 50 experts who worked on the design, including the experts of PT Indonesian Aerospace. HR will be increased to 500 to 1,000 people when entering the development stage.
R80 is a development of the N-250 aircraft that dibidani BJ Habibie, but halted the project by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) due to the 1998 economic crisis, however, has been modified, such as larger bodies.
R80 is also designed to be used on a short route with the distance less than 600 km and is able to be accommodated by the airport with a short runway.
